IT and software specialist Intelliflo has published a White Paper aimed at helping financial advisers improve their understanding in the digital landscape.

Switched On explores the current state of affairs when it comes to internet use, mobile technology, demographics and competitive developments.

The report launch follows research conducted by Intelliflo among advisers, which highlighted misconceptions about how digital technology is changing expectations across the generations.

Nick Eatock, executive chairman at Intelliflo, said: “The majority of our clients are fully aware of the importance of having digital tools to drive their business forward but some are missing a trick.

“Mobile technology is incredibly fast paced and institutions such as banks and building societies are using it to offer their customers instant engagement. Advisers have the opportunity to do the same but they need to act quickly if they are to compete with the might of the multi-nationals.”

He added: “There’s a real risk that advisers who delay adoption of digital engagement because they have an older, wealthy client base demographic could find themselves at a disadvantage when it comes to client retention in the near future.”

Adviser view

David Gibson, director of Londonderry-based Gibson Financial Planning, said: “Some advisers are extremely pro-technology and others are set in the ways they’ve grown up with. I do not see any option other than to use technology to make our lives that bit easier.”
