This year did not start very well for UK equities. January and February in particular saw incredibly turbulent weeks for markets, and the FTSE 100 dropped to a three-year low in mid-February. Inflation has also risen in recent months, reaching 0.5 per cent in March, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS). It is now at its highest level since December 2014, but still remains well below the Bank of England’s 2 per cent target. Inflation is said to be expected to remain below 1 per cent this year.
