Monday

This is no easy feat when it involves NHS pensions and when wholly incorrect pensionable earnings are supplied by the NHS Pensions Agency.

Tuesday

I start the day by meeting with a recruitment agency to discuss growth and expansion plans. This is followed by the weekly strategy meeting with our marketing team. I have a new client meeting with a young serial entrepreneur, who has recently established a similar business that he sold a few years ago for a very large sum. He has been referred to us by an insurance broker who specialises in the north’s growing digital and creative sector. The meeting is to review his key person and personal protection needs. I finish the day with a late night run in preparation for the Great Manchester 10K run that I am doing for one of our charities, Once Upon A Smile, which is a local child and family bereavement charity.

Wednesday

It is an early start and late finish today. I start to write up an at retirement case for another long-standing client who needs to access her lump sum to fund the purchase of a new house as they are relocating near to where their children have moved to, in the south of England. I have a meeting with our events team to organise the mechanics of a networking event at our new bar and entertaining space for the Manchester Publicity Association. This is called Fifteen minutes of shame, and is a fun panel event, discussing acting for celebrities and the risks that this poses. I end the day with an evening appointment at the home of the finance director of one of our corporate clients to discuss his semi-retirement plans and his options.

Thursday

I just had some great news in that I have made it into Vouched For’s Top 250 IFAs nationally and we will be listed in the Sunday Times this week. The morning is spent passing over work generated from the last three days’ meetings to our administration and paraplanning team. I have two new client meetings today. The first is to review the existing business and personal protection needs of a director/owner whose business is a digital agency specialising in the music and entertainment sector. I have another evening meeting with a relatively new client who found us through Unbiased.co.uk. This is a second meeting with another owner/managed business to discuss his pension funding gaps and funding affordability funding via his limited company. Excellent work has been done by the administration team and paraplanner in analysing the pension shortfall. The meeting goes well and he is progressing to the next stage of the suitability report and recommendation.

Friday

It is great meeting new clients, but I seriously need to catch up with client phone calls and emails that could not be dealt with quickly. I finish the day by meeting a new client who came to us via Vouched For. She is a management consultant who contracts for NHS and local authority via her limited company. She wants a holistic review and is concerned about her health and its potential impact on her career, and retained NHS pension benefits, and whether she should invest more into rental properties. I finish the week with a quick and well-deserved pint with different teams in our business before heading off home to spend the weekend with my family.
