Gam to purchase £1.8bn equity house THS

Gam has agreed to acquire Taube Hodson Stonex (THS) and will incorporate the business into its investment teams.

THS Partners, with nearly £2bn in assets, is a UK-based active equity house which runs global and European long-term stock-picking strategies. The firm prodominantly managed institutional mandates, but had begun making inroads into the retail market.

The deal should close in Q3 with the investment team, led by Cato Stonex, Mark Evans, Robert Smithson and Ali Miremadi, relocating to Gam’s London offices.

Gam group chief executive Alexander Friedman said the deal was consistent with the firm’s growth strategy. THS had been a sub-adviser to one of the firm’s global equity strategies prior to the deal.

“With their proven track record and deep expertise, the THS team is a great strategic and cultural fit for GAM.

“We have a multi-decade relationship with the founders, and this acquisition is consistent with the growth agenda we set out in 2015, which includes targeting opportunities that substantially deepen our global equity capabilities,” he said.
