Financial Planning Week shows demand for guidance

The consumer response to Financial Planning Week demonstrated the need for trusted financial guidance, according to the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (Cisi).

The series of events, which ran last week, saw 200 pure financial planning questions submitted, with 25 consumer questions answered to date through the Ask a Planner website.

There were also 500 telephone calls from consumers, and 51 bookings for the Money Talks Cass Business School event for millennials and students.

Campbell Edgar, Cisi’s head of financial planning, said: “It has highlighted the gap which exists for consumers for true, professional financial planning assistance.

A total of 51 financial planning firms took part in the week-long event.

Jacqueline Lockie, Cisi’s deputy head of financial planning, said: “The consumer response has been off the scale, and we believe we have made good progress in helping the general public to understand the difference between financial planning and financial advice.
