Baring Asset Management is to become the latest fund house to launch a product tapping into demand for Gars-like absolute return strategies, Investment Adviser understands.
It is understood the fund, to be managed by James Ind and team, is lined up for a summer launch and will take a similar approach to household names such as Standard Life Investments’ £25bn Gars strategy.
The fund will adopt an absolute return approach and aim for little or no equity beta.
Barings was an early arrival in the multi-asset space, and its product range now includes the £165m Multi Asset and £19m Multi Asset Income funds. The firm has also been expanding its team, led by Marino Valensise.
Mr Ind, who has worked at asset managers including GLG Partners and Russell Investments, joined Barings last autumn and was tasked with devising a long/short strategy.
Merrick Styles, previously of Amundi, also joined the team in autumn, bringing its size to 12.
A Barings spokesman said: “We are always reviewing the type of products to offer clients and their investors the strongest risk-adjusted returns available from our multi-asset skill set.
“Intermediaries welcome multi-asset innovation and we are developing a new and complementary product proposition, further details of which will be available soon.”
