I am writing in response to the news that fund groups and buyers are becoming increasingly concerned that a newly introduced EU regulation may prevent managers from discussing individual holdings with clients (FT Adviser 18 July).

I could not be more sanguine about Brexit. Hearing BBC Radio 4 announce in the early morning of 24 June that we had voted Leave marked the start of one of the happiest days of my life. I feel that our country has won itself a fresh start in the world. I can imagine now how the first generation of Americans must have felt in 1776.

Before 24 June I felt that I hardly had a country. It was suffocating and going nowhere. Democracy was dying. Real freedom was diminishing by the day. Now we have everything to play for. Thirty years from now, 99 per cent of those who voted will swear they voted for Brexit. I am thankful and proud to be part of the 52 per cent that actually did.
