Former Scottish Widows chief joins L&G board

The former chief executive of Scottish Widows has joined Legal & General’s board.

Toby Strauss will become an independent non-executive director at the company from 1 January 2017.

He stepped down from Scottish Widows in 2015 after four years.

Mr Strauss said: “Legal & General is a fantastic company committed to supporting investment in UK infrastructure and the savings, insurance and retirement needs of their customers. I look forward to joining the board.”

Before joining Scottish Widows Mr Strauss was chief executive of Aviva’s UK life division and he currently serves as a trustee of Macmillan Cancer Support.

Rudy Markham, L&G’s interim chairman, said: "I am delighted that Toby is joining us.

“His many years of experience in the UK insurance sector further supplements the strength and balance of skills and experience of the board. I look forward to working with him.”

Once on the board Mr Strauss will join L&G’s nominations, audit and risk committees.

L&G has also announced that Lesley Knox will become chairman of its remuneration committee at the start of next month.
