LV denies merger talks with Royal London

Life company LV has denied that it has been involved in discussions to merge with Royal London after reports of talks emerged today.

The company stated that it would not comment on rumours or speculation regarding a potential merger and denied that the reports were true.

A spokesperson from LV said: “We’re not in merger talks with anyone. It’s a perpetual story that rears its head every few years.”

Sky News reported earlier today that LV has held aborted talks in recent months with Royal London about a possible merger of the two businesses.

The report said that the discussions ended over a disagreement over the structure of the deal and that it was unclear whether any further negotiations were ongoing.

LV is rumoured to have received a number of enquiries from other insurers about a possible acquisition of its general insurance division, and that the company is understood to have considered selling individual parts of its business.
