Kames overhauls UK Opportunities fund

Kames Capital has opted to apply a greater onus on small and medium companies within its UK Opportunities fund as it seeks to "reinvigorate" the product.

The asset manager will seek to "sharpen" the £62m fund's focus on underappreciated medium to smaller companies via the adoption of a process to identify promising stocks.

According to FE Analytics, the fund has underperformed its IA UK All Companies peer group average on a one and five-year basis. However over three years the fund returned 29.6 per cent, outstripping the 27.4 per cent average from this sector.

The overhaul, which will not involve a change to the fund's objective, will also see Kames deputy head of equities Phil Haworth join Audrey Ryan as co-manager on the portfolio.

The duo will now pay increased attention to themes in the market, allocating to those "set to drive growth momentum".

Kames director of wholesale business Steve Kenny said: "We have made these changes to the Kames UK Opportunities Fund as part of an overall reinvigoration of this high-conviction, high-alpha unconstrained stockpicking fund."
