Ex-Artemis Income manager Gosden to join Gam

Gam has hired former Artemis Income co-manager Adrian Gosden to spearhead a foray into the UK equity income space, Investment Adviser can reveal.

Mr Gosden, who spent 13 years at Artemis before departing last year, will run a newly launched UK equity income vehicle for the fund house, ending a year-long hiatus from the industry.

The manager joined Artemis in 2003, running the £6.5bn Artemis Income fund alongside Adrian Frost until last year. A difference of opinion over the sharing of responsibilities and ultimate succession planning for the portfolio was understood to be among the reasons for Mr Gosden’s exit.

The manager’s efforts helped Artemis Income post a 92.8 per cent return over the 10 years to his departure, compared with a 66 per cent return for the IA UK Equity Income sector and a 65 per cent rise in the FTSE All-Share index, data from FE Analytics shows.

Mr Gosden joined Artemis from Societe Generale Asset Management, having spent two years running that firm’s UK Income fund alongside Nicola Horlick.

Gam, which does not currently offer a UK equity income product, declined to comment.
