Close finish for diversity heroes

Of Ms Joseph, WisdomTree wrote: “She deserves recognition for the outstanding leadership in the WisdomTree Women’s Initiative Network, her enthusiasm towards her job and her continuous endeavour in making the workplace a level playing field for all.”

The entry also highlighted her work in helping to provide a voice for under-represented communities, such as the LGBTQI community. Ms Joseph recently embarked on a project to work with Mermaids, a charity that supports transgender and gender-variant young people.

Ms Shlomo’s entry detailed she had line management responsibility for just 5 per cent of the CII’s headcount, but she “made an impact entirely disproportionate to the resources at her disposal”.

The entry, composed on her behalf by the CII, stated: “Throughout 2019, she fiercely drove the organisation to excel in its culture, performance, and ability to attract and retain high-calibre individuals, despite competing for talent in the increasingly competitive marketplace.

“She championed the benefits of unleashing the talents of women and people of ethnicity at all levels –not just within the CII, but also within the wider insurance and financial services community.”

The three shortlisted candidates also deserve a mention for their excellent work.

These are: Dennis Owusu-Sem, oversight relationship manager at BMO, for creating ‘Success Talks’ to help young Black and ethnic minority professionals; Ijeoma Okoli, executive director at JPMorgan, for her ‘Stories of Black Leaders’ exhibition; and Alison Jefferis, head of corporate affairs for Columbia Threadneedle, for her work with the campaign 56 Black Men.

Well done to all.
