Invesco Perpetual is to launch an emerging markets fixed income fund to be managed by Stuart Edwards and Asad Bhatti.

The firm said its Global Emerging Markets Bond fund was a "natural extension" for the fixed interest team, which now runs a total of 29 products.

The move comes after Invesco Perpetual's bond figurehead Paul Read handed over several funds last year, so the firm could promote other members of its team.

In this vein, the fund will be jointly run by Mr Edwards and Mr Bhatti, with no listed involvement from either Mr Read or co-fixed interest head Paul Causer.

The EMD fund is Mr Bhatti's first as a lead manager. He was previously deputy on Mr Read and Mr Causer on the firm's £136m High Yield offering, but stepped back from that fund last year..

Mr Edwards currently runs the £502m Global Bond fund, along with a similar offshore strategy for Invesco.

Mr Causer said: "We believe emerging market bonds are going to become an increasingly important and prominent asset class. Conversations with clients already suggest that there is greater appetite for these sorts of products."

The fund will have an ongoing charges figure of between 0.65 and 0.95 per cent, depending on share class, and a minimum investment of £500.
