Dowgate Wealth has launched an AIM-listed investment trust focusing on UK smaller companies.

Onward Opportunities Limited was listed on AIM this week (March 30) with an initial investment amount of £12.7mn.

The trust will invest in 20 to 25 specialist UK companies, mostly listed on the London Stock Exchange with an investment time horizon of three to five years.

The board and portfolio manager of the trust believe there is a “structural market opportunity” in the UK’s smaller companies sector, and an active approach to investing in this market can lead to increased returns.

Andrew Henton, chair of the board of the trust, said: “We believe that a structural gap exists within the UK smaller companies sector which can be exploited through the deep industry experience of the investment team.

“[We aim to] support the growth companies that are the driving force of enterprise in the UK whilst also taking advantage of valuation inefficiencies to underpin returns.”

Mark Chadwick, chief executive, Dowgate Wealth, said: “The market volatility of 2022 has created a statistically interesting time to deploy capital into robust, well-researched investment ideas in the UK.

“We are confident that Onward Opportunities will prove to be a popular proposition for investors looking for an innovative product that can provide absolute returns.”

Dowgate Wealth was founded in 2020 by a group of colleagues from Hargreave Hale, and has assets of £500mn.
