Omnis to broaden out bond range

Omnis Investments is planning to increase its fixed income offerings in 2017.

The firm, which manages investments for advice outfit Openwork by hiring external managers to run mandates, currently offers UK and  Global Bond funds – both of which operate on a combined government and corporate securities strategy.

However, Philip Martin, marketing and propositions director at Openwork, said adding to the range by bringing specialist corporate and government debt vehicles was a “logical” move as the business looked to expand the options available to Openwork clients.

As it stands, the £199m Global Bond strategy is managed by Schroders’ Gareth Isaac, though the manager was announced last month to be leaving the FTSE 100 fund house. The £613m UK fund is run by Columbia Threadneedle duo Alasdair Ross and Ryan Staszewski. Both funds were launched in February 2014.

“We run [bond funds] but it mixes corporate bonds with government debt. There’s an obvious opportunity to split that out and treat them as separate asset classes,” Mr Martin said.

“I think that’s probably the route we’ll go down, it’s the logical place for us to think about innovating now.”

The company has launched an Asia-Pacific fund, a European fund, and a UK Income and Growth fund this year, managed by Baillie Gifford, Jupiter and Neil Woodford respectively.
