Invesco Perpetual's Asia trust has seen its net asset value jump by more than a third in six months, helped by the rise in the Asian equity markets.

The trust has seen its net asset value climb 33.6 per cent in the six months to the end of October, outperforming the benchmark index, the MSCI AC Asia ex Japan Index which rose by 32.1 per cent.

The company’s share price increased by 34.7 per cent, hitting 246.5p from 183p.

Carol Ferguson, the trust’s chairman, said the Asian equity markets have had to contend with declining economic growth in the region over the years.

This, he said, is partly due to weak export demand, which is not expected to strengthen to any great extent because global growth remains subdued.

Mr Ferguson added: “We wait to see what mix of policies the Trump administration pursues and hope that pragmatism will prevail over protectionist policies.”

The Invesco Asia trust invests primarily in the equity securities of companies listed on the stockmarkets of Asia (ex Japan) including Australasia.

It may also invest in unquoted securities up to 10 per cent of the value of the company’s gross assets.
