Pimco hires vice president for commercial property team

Pimco has named Jeffrey Thompson as its executive vice president for the commercial real estate team, as the company continues to expand its alternatives platform.

Mr Thompson, who has 20 years of experience as an investment professional, will also work as a portfolio manager on the commercial property team at Pimco.

In this new role, Mr Thompson will focus on commercial real estate lending opportunities, which Pimco said is an important area of growth.

He will be based in the firm’s New York office and will report to Pimco’s co-heads of US commercial real estate, John Murray and Devin Chen.

Mr Murray said the commercial real estate team continues to find lots of investment opportunities around the world.

Pimco's alternatives offerings span a range of strategies with more than 100 investment professionals overseeing hedge fund and opportunistic or “distressed” strategies.

Dan Ivascyn, Pimco’s group chief investment officer, said: “Pimco continues to look to attract the best investment talent globally and has hired more than 210 new employees this year.”

This includes more than 40 investment professionals across alternatives, client analytics, emerging markets, mortgages, real estate and macroeconomics.
