Fund industry veteran Matthew Kemp is to join Legal & General Investment Management (LGIM) as a senior investment sales manager, as the fund group looks to bolster is presence among wealth managers.
Mr Kemp – who leaves his role as head of UK wholesale distribution at Ashburton Investments – will report to Stephen Gray at LGIM.
Mr Gray was hired by the firm last year to lead its wealth manager distribution strategy.
Mr Kemp departs Ashburton after less than a year in his current role, having previously spent six years at Smith & Williamson Investment Management.
Prior to that he spent four years apiece at Standard Life Investments and Axa Investment Managers.
At LGIM he will focus on London-based wealth managers, brokers and fund of fund managers.
Mr Gray said of Mr Kemp’s appointment: “Matthew’s extensive experience working with a variety of discretionary clients makes him a valuable addition.”
The appointment comes amid a concerted effort from the insurer-owned asset manager to boost its retail presence, following on from its appointment of former Jupiter man Simon Hynes as head of retail sales in 2015.
Last year Mr Hynes told Investment Adviser he was focused on increasing the firm’s product range in the active equity and fixed income spaces.
He added that LGIM would also continue to bring its institutional strategies to retail investors.
