Ex-OMGI man Oxley to launch boutique

Russ Oxley, the former Ignis and Old Mutual Global Investors (OMGI) manager who left the latter following a "difference of opinion” last year, is set to return to the industry with a boutique offering.

Mr Oxley is in the process of establishing an asset manager according to the Oxley Investment Services website.

He will continue to focus on liquid macro strategies, along the lines of the Absolute Return Government Bond fund started at Ignis in 2011.

"The scope to provide liquidity or capital to medium-term macro and structural approaches in the liquid markets is compelling," said the site.

Mr Oxley made a surprise departure from OMGI last year, leaving the fund house after a year because of what the firm called a "difference of opinion regarding future strategic direction”.

Having previously worked at Ignis, he had joined OMGI following the former's acquisition by Standard Life Investments.

Mr Oxley and his five-strong team left only months after the takeover, following OMGI's launch of a new version of the Absolute Return Government Bond strategy his team ran at Ignis.
