Aberdeen's Gilbey to head up Franklin Templeton

Martyn Gilbey  will join Franklin Templeton Investments on 1 August as its UK Country head from Aberdeen Asset Management.

Mr Gilbey will be based at Franklin Templeton’s London offices and he will be leading the local team to develop the firm’s retail and institutional businesses in the UK and offshore territories.

He will report to Vivek Kudva, managing director of EMEA and India at Franklin Templeton Investments.

Mr Gilbey was most recently head of UK distribution at Aberdeen Asset Management where he led a team of 40 and supporting about £200bn of client assets, invested across all major asset classes.

It was announced in March that Aberdeen and Standard Life have agreed to merge in a £660bn transaction.

Previously he worked for Scottish Widows Investment Partnership (Swip) where he was head of wholesale distribution.

Prior to that, he worked for Mirae Asset Global Investment, where he held the position of global chief marketing officer, based in Hong Kong and then London.

He earned a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature from University College London.

Mr Kudva said:  “I am delighted that Martyn is joining Franklin Templeton.

"With over 24 years of financial services experience, 18 of which have been in investment management specifically, Martyn brings a wealth of expertise to grow our retail and institutional presence.

"I look forward to welcoming Martyn on board and working closely with him on further expanding our business in the UK market.”
