Hargreaves Lansdown clients' favourite funds revealed

Nick Train was the most popular fund manager with Hargreaves Lansdown clients in 2018, with two of his funds among the top 10 most bought.

He is the only individual fund manager to have two actively managed funds on the list.

His £5.6bn Lindsell Train UK equity fund, and £5.3bn Lindsell Train Global Equity fund are among the the best sellers on the Hargreaves Lansdown platform.

Both funds are among the top 25 per cent of performers in their respective sectors in 2018 year to date.

Edinburgh-based fund house Baillie Gifford also had two funds on the list.

The £1.8bn Baillie Gifford American, which is the absolute top performer in the IA North American sector over one, three and five years, and the £600m Global Discovery fund make the list.  

The only other company with two funds among the top 10 is Legal & General, with its passive investment products, the Legal & General International Index, and Legal & General US Index funds.

The largest global equity fund available to UK retail investors is Fundsmith Equity.

The £16.2bn fund, run by industry veteran Terry Smith and the firm’s head of research Julian Robins, has made money for investors during the 2018 calendar year.

It has returned 4 per cent, compared with a loss of  4 per cent for the average fund in the IA Global sector in the same time period.
