Close Bros hires Rathbones' Hess to head up HNW service

Close Brothers Asset Management (CBAM) has appointed Andrew Hess as managing director of its high net worth bespoke investment management service.

Mr Hess had worked as investment director at Rathbones for 18 years.

He has worked in the industry for 30 years, managing funds for private clients, pension funds, charities and City Livery companies. He is a Chartered Fellow of the Securities Institute.

Martin Andrew, chief executive of Close Brothers Asset Management, said: "We are looking to hire the best investment managers in the industry and Andrew fits that bill perfectly.

"His appointment will be crucial in the further development of our proposition, maintaining the excellent service that we provide, and building capacity to attract new clients."

Mr Hess's appointment followed the arrival of Hugh Adlington, Tim Eliot-Cohen and Oliver Harvey in London, and former Rathbones directors Andrew Mackintosh-Walker and John Henderson in Scotland, as part of a wider strategy to expand the bespoke business.

Mr Andrew added: "2018 proved an important year for our high net worth bespoke investment management service, as it moved into a new phase of growth, supported by selective, high quality additions to our team of investment managers and the growth of our West End office.

"We have every expectation that 2019 will be a similarly positive year for the team."
