Best performing UK funds in first quarter

Mr Message ran a UK equity income fund at Old Mutual Global Investors (now Merian Global Investors) prior to joining Legal and General Investment Management in 2017.

The fund has underperformed over the past twelve months however, returning 4.5 per cent compared with 6 per cent for the sector average.

The largest holdings in the fund include Lloyds Banking Group and mining company BHP Billiton.

The mining company’s shares have risen in value from £17 to £19 over the past six months, while the shares of Lloyds Banking Group have risen from 58p to 62p over that time.

Meanwhile the IA UK Equity Income sector went up by 8.72 per cent.
