Revealed: FTA Investment 100 Club winners 2020

Baillie Gifford and Liontrust have again won the top prizes at the FTAdviser Investment 100 Club, after another successful year for both companies’ fund ranges.

The 100 Club Awards assess funds and asset managers on a quantitative basis, analysing short- and long-term outperformance as part of a set of strict screening factors. A panel of judges then scrutinised members in each category to pick overall winners. They again felt Baillie Gifford's strong culture and impressive returns were too good to ignore in the Large Investment Group category.

The Edinburgh-based fund house also took home a separate category award: its American fund, which has returned more than 80 per cent year to date and over 300 per cent over three years, won in the North American category.

For Liontrust, it was a hat-trick of repeat victories, as its Small to Mid-Sized Investment Group title was accompanied by two other repeat winners.

The company's Sustainable Future Managed Growth fund won out in the Mixed Asset grouping, and its UK Smaller Companies fund topped the pile in the category of the same name. The judges praised the fund house's ability to maintain returns while pursuing a merger and acquisition strategy.

LGIM, meanwhile, won best Passive Investment Group, having been commended for its thematic products and commitment to building its own indices.

Other major winners this year included T Rowe Price, which took home awards in the Global and Asia ex-Japan equity sectors for funds that managed to flourish without having an overt bias to tech; and RLAM, which won in the Mixed Asset Income and UK Equity categories for its sustainable products. The judges praised the firm’s long-term commitment to sustainable investing.

There were also wins for investment trusts: Finsbury Growth & Income IT took home the UK Equity Income praise after standing out in a tough year for the sector, while Worldwide Healthcare triumphed in the Specialist Sectors category after being judged best in class.

Elsewhere there were also wins for firms including M&G, Schroders, Man GLG and Allianz. Full coverage appears in this week’s issue of Financial Adviser, and a complete list of winners is below.
