Amati Global Investors has hired a fund manager to launch a global equity strategy.

Graeme Bencke will work alongside Mikhail Zverev and Gareth Blades on the new strategy.

Bencke spent eight years as an equity portfolio manager at F&C Asset Management, and 12 years as a global equity portfolio manager at PineBridge Investments.

After stints at Gresham House and Columbus Investment Partners, he co-founded Torvius, an advisory and consulting firm that advises early stage, high-growth technology businesses.

Bencke said he is looking forward to making a “significant contribution” to the future success of the firm.

“I have followed Amati’s impressive growth since my earliest days with Gresham House and am truly excited to be joining such a thoughtful and experienced group of professionals,” he added.

Amati’s chief executive Paul Jourdan said the appointment of a manager of Bencke’s calibre, with the proven track record and experience he brings, underscores the company’s commitment to building a first-class investment capability in the global equity arena.

“He will add considerable weight to our investment management resource, and we look forward to working with him as we extend our capabilities into this hugely important asset class,” he said.

Amati Global Investors is a specialist asset management boutique that focuses on UK small and mid-cap companies.

It manages four vehicles, the TB Amati UK Smaller Companies Fund, Amati AIM VCT, the Amati AIM IHT Portfolio Service and the TB Amati Strategic Metals Fund.

As at March 31 this year, the company had £1.2bn in assets under management.
