Chancellor warned against 'flying blind' in emergency budget

The biggest driver of the rise in prices is energy costs, which continue to spiral, with Citi yesterday predicting the UK’s retail energy price cap, currently at £1,971 a year, will hit £4,567 in January and £5,816 in April. 

Millions of people in the UK would be put into "dire straits" this winter if these predictions are correct, an expert warned.
