Halifax offers £1,000 cashback on mortgages

Halifax is offering first-time buyers (FTBs) and home movers £1,000 cashback on qualifying mortgages from today (8 May).

The cashback will be paid automatically on completion and sent to the conveyancer with the completion funds.

The news comes as more and more lenders offer incentives to borrowers as an alternative to cutting rates, which are already at record lows.

Ian Wilson, head of Halifax Intermediaries, said: “Buying your first house or moving into your dream home is an exciting time.

"However, there can be unexpected costs to factor in during what can already be an expensive time.

“Our latest offer aims to help ease some of the financial burden of first-time buyers and home movers by providing a boost to bank balances, so that they can celebrate moving into their new homes.”

Ian Ward, managing director at Wirral-based The Mortgage Partnership, said: “Halifax is clearly keen to engage intermediaries and their clients with what is an eye catching cashback offering for first-time buyers and home movers.

“I can see this opening another front in the battle for new business and I expect others to respond with similar offers.”
