LLA spearheads New Horizons programme to support IFAs

The Later Life Academy (LLA), the commercial and training organisation for later life advisers, is planning an event called New Horizons to support new advisers and firms entering the market.

The Academy said it was launching the programme in response to the growing demand for advice in later life.

The first five events will take place in Leeds/Bradford on 7 November, Birmingham on 8 November, Southampton on21 November and in London on 28 and 29 November.

Stuart Wilson, managing partner at the LLA, said: “Understanding the basics of the market and what is required of advisers in order to compete successfully is an absolute must.

“It’s a growing marketplace and one IFAs and firms need to take seriously if they’re to secure their place, and success, in it.”

Each event will help new IFAs or those looking to increase business. The aim is to help them to understand the basics of the later life market, what opportunities are availableand what ‘best practice’ advice looks like.

Key areas include: products; the sales process; factfinding and the older consumer; suitability and compliance; benefits and tax; the later life market; conveyancing and mental capacity. There will also be a Q&A session.

Members of the Academy, as well as representatives from the Equity Release Council and a number of provider partners, will provide information about products and services.

Mike Richards, director at Mortgage Concepts welcomed the event, said: “With the demise of buy-to-let mortgages, which many of us were doing a lot of, people are diversifying and [the later life market] is an area for them to move into.

“There isn’t a massive gap in [later life advice giving] yet, but it will definitely become bigger as the demand grows.”
