Tesco under fire pulling higher LTV deals

A financial adviser has been left "fuming" after Tesco withdrew all higher loan-to-value mortgage products, meaning his customers missed out.

Bob Riach, proprietor of mortgage brokerage Riach Financial in Scunthorpe, had obtained agreements in principle for customers on Tesco mortgages, before discovering that all rates above 85 per cent loan-to-value had been withdrawn.

Mr Riach, who is a member of Sesame's mortgage network, said he received an email stating Tesco products were being withdrawn but had assumed that this meant the rates the deals were available at were changing.

He said: "When I found they had withdrawn them all I was furious.

"My customers have missed out. They should have flagged this as a major change - I assumed they were going to bring new products out at this level, but there is nothing."

Mr Riach said that he had only recently started working with Tesco as they had been added to the panel of lenders used by Sesame.

He said: "They have been very competitive and the service has been good.

"But we should have been informed about this better. It is the way that it has been handled that makes me cross. If I had have known about this I would have got my customers in earlier.

"They say they are working with intermediaries, but the communication has to be better than this."

Tesco Bank confirmed that it had withdrawn the mortgage deals.

A spokesman for the bank said: "We work closely with intermediary partners to ensure we provide a great service for Tesco customers.

"When withdrawing a product we provide clear notification of any changes two days in advance.

"Our range is constantly under review and we periodically withdraw some products to ensure we continue to offer a great service and consistently take a balanced approach to growth.

"We will be offering new higher LTV products in the coming weeks and prior to these being available we will notify our intermediary partners."

Sesame has also been contacted for comment.
