Peter would require an independent witness to his signature and a Certificate Provider to confirm that he had capacity to make the LPA to appoint Jane. A Certificate Provider could be a professional such as a doctor or solicitor, or someone who has known him for two years.

There is no point in having documents in place if their existence and location is not known.

As well as sharing information about the whereabouts of important documents such as Wills, LPAs and life insurance policies, the contact details of any professional advisors is also sensible.

In today’s world, listing digital assets and providing passwords to cloud storage, emails and social media accounts is also essential and often overlooked.
