Ex-FCA advice director joins Aegon

Former director of life insurance and financial advice at the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), Linda Woodall, has joined Aegon's independent governance committee (ICG) as an independent member.

Ms Woodall, who left the regulator during the Christmas period, replaced Jo Causon, chief executive of the Institute of Customer Service, who served on the committee since its inception in April 2015.

At the FCA the former director oversaw work on the Financial Advice Market Review (FAMR) and the adviser due diligence review of 2016, which found some advice firms were putting platforms ahead of their clients get when considering products.

Prior to that she was director of mortgages and consumer lending at the regulator.

Chairman of Aegon's independent governance committee, Ian Pittaway, said: "Linda is an ideal candidate and an excellent addition to our committee.

"Linda will bring fresh insights and challenges to our independent governance committee and will make sure we continue to focus on broader regulatory developments in defining 'value for money'."

Ms Woodall said: "We are reaching an interesting juncture as rising pension contributions create a huge test for auto-enrolment and pension freedoms change people’s attitudes towards retirement income.

"Independent governance committees need to continue to challenge and ensure that members receive good value for money and good outcomes from their workplace pensions."

Ms Woodall also joined the retail conduct advisory panel of management consultancy Huntswood CTC in May, according to her Linkedin profile.

She was replaced at the FCA by Deb Jones and Debbie Gupta, who were appointed as co-directors of life insurance and financial advice supervision.

Ms Jones was previously a director of competition at the FCA while Ms Gupta was an executive director at the National Employment Savings Trust (Nest).
