Nucleus creates tech oversight role

Jeannie Bowman has been appointed to the newly created role head of internal systems at adviser-built wrap platform Nucleus.

Ms Bowman, who will report to chief technology officer Andrew Smith, will be charged with ensuring all systems including the platform continue to run smoothly.

Her responsibilities include overseeing the design and development of systems, as well as leading the infrastructure and systems security teams. This includes managing changes associated with system enhancements.

Nucleus, which has assets under administration on its platform of £14.3bn and replatformed two years ago, said it was not aware of any problems with the platform.

Andrew Smith, Nucleus chief technology officer, said: "We’re delighted to welcome Jeannie to the Nucleus team. She brings a wealth of insight into developing operational systems and ensuring they are robust, and her experience and knowledge of global businesses will play a huge role in helping us to continue to deliver an effective and secure service to our users.

"As the business continues to grow, experienced technology hires like this will only strengthen our proposition further and ensure the platform is future-proofed for years to come."

Jeanie Bowman brings more than 17 years of experience in a variety of IT-related roles within the energy industry. She was previously at Shell, where she led on a number of global IT management projects and operations. She also fulfilled several audit management roles.

Prior to her management positions Ms Bowman worked as a regional senior IT technical consultant in Kuala Lumpur.

Ms Bowman said: "Nucleus is an innovative fintech company with a great reputation. It was a natural move, therefore, to join a company that places such an emphasis on technology and development.

"I am very excited to begin my journey at the company, and look forward to contributing to its future success."

The move comas after rival platforms Aviva and Aegon suffered a myriad of problems following their replatforming in January and May respectively.

The platforms are still working to get their services back to normal after months of disruption for advisers.

Dennis Hall, CEO of Yellowtail Financial Planning, said: "I think all platforms need to have someone overseeing internal IT structures, providing they are given the correct level of responsibility and have the full backing of the board.

"No one wants to see platforms get embroiled in the mess that certain ones have had to contend with in recent times."
