Mother and son charged over £140k life insurance fraud

A mother and son have been charged after they allegedly conspired to fake the mother’s death in Zanzibar in an alleged attempt to claim £140,000 of life insurance.

Arafa Nassib, 45, Adil Kasim, 18, both of Walsall, have been charged with fraud by false representation.

The insurer referred the case to the City of London Police’s Insurance Fraud Enforcement Department in late 2016.

Mr Kasim was arrested by officers on 22 December 2016 and Ms Nassib was arrested on 8 February 2017 when she returned to the country from Canada.

The pair will appear at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court on 3 May 2017.

The Insurance Fraud Enforcement Department is a specialist police unit dedicated to tackling insurance fraud across England and Wales.

It is funded by members of the Association of British Insurers and Lloyd’s of London, and hosted by the City of London Police.
