LV offers GP app to protection policyholders

New personal protection policyholders with LV have been given access to three medical services via a mobile phone app.

The app enables customers to speak to a UK doctor by video or phone, get a private prescription without needing to visit their GP, obtain a review of an existing diagnosis and get specialist advice on treatment options.

It has been provided by partner Square Health and comes at no additional cost to the policyholder.

Customers can book appointments with doctors and specialists between 8am and 7pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 1pm on Saturdays.

The service is also available for the policyholder’s children up to the age of 16.

Chris McNab, head of protection propositions at LV, said: “We know that in today’s frantic world, people can sometimes struggle to get the guidance they need on everyday medical issues. So we’re very excited to be partnering with Square Health to provide our protection customers with convenient access to qualified UK doctors and specialists, at no added cost.”

Kevin Titmus, independent lifestyle financial planner at Staffordshire-based Future Planning Wealth Management, said the feature sounded good but would not influence his decision on whether or not to recommend a policy.

“I would look at the policy conditions and the level of cover but would not consider fringe benefits like that,” he added.
