Royal London protection director resigns

Royal London's head of protection strategy has resigned.

Debbie Kennedy, who joined the business in 2014, won personality of the year at Protection Review this year, and is well known for having launched new strategies for the group including on diabetes specific life cover where Royal London partnered with Blue Circle Life, part of South African life insurer AllLife Group, to design and develop the Kalibre Platform.

“During her time with the business Debbie has played a central role, building a strong protection proposition and leading our protection strategy," Ewan Smith, proposition design and market engagement Director at Royal London, said.

"Our market share and reputation in the intermediary protection market is stronger now than it has been for many years."

Ms Kennedy's departure is likely to come as a heavy blow to protection advisers who have credited her with a turnaround for the sector at Royal London.

Alan Lakey director at protection advice specialist CIExpert, told FTAdviser recently that the company “has turned itself around in recent years, and a lot of people are saying that is down to Debbie Kennedy”.

One recent development at Royal London is the ability for customers to use an e-signature to provide medical consent in a bid to speed up the protection application process as well as the provision of an audit trail and improved document security.
