Cirencester follows Vitality's rewards lead

Cirencester Friendly has launched a member rewards scheme across its income protection range, in a bid to offer customers benefits throughout their membership and not just at the point of claim.

New and existing members of the provider's income assured enhanced and my earnings insurance products can access the reward scheme at no additional cost, offering discounts, cashback and special offers on national brands and services.

Included in the rewards, members can now access a free telephone legal advice service, receive discounts on cinema tickets and save 20 per cent on Virgin Experience Days.

David MacGregor, commercial director of Cirencester Friendly, said: "As a friendly society we are always looking to go beyond the peace of mind an income protection contract provides.

"This range of tangible benefits will ensure that all new and existing members can benefit from having a contract with Cirencester Friendly throughout the lifetime of their membership, not just at claim."

Earlier this year, Cirencester reported a growth in income by 5 per cent to £22.8m in 2017 - increasing the bonus paid by the mutual to its members to £6m.

AJ Somal, chartered financial planner at Aurora Financial Planning, said the addition of member rewards was an interesting innovation to the protection market.

He said: "It is the same as Vitality, which has been offering to their members for life and private medical insurance policies, so Cirencester have offered this onto income protection.

"It is a general trend to increase the loyalty of consumers, and is potentially what other providers will look to do as well."
