Canada Life has updated its employee care product, offering employees are range of discounts and cashback.

The employee assistance programme, provided with Canada Life’s group income protection product, is offering an updated wellbeing solution, as well as tools to help employers measure utilisation.

Employees can access perks including gift cards, in-store and online discounts, cashback and cheaper cinema tickets.

Using average spending figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS), Canada Life estimated employees could save £1,928 each year by using Employee Care.

A new company dashboard will allow employers to see how often staff are engaging with the benefits and spot trends.

The app also includes access to 8,000 health and wellbeing articles and podcasts, and information about counselling services.

Dan Crook, sales director at Canada Life Group Insurance, said the motivation behind the update was that businesses often struggled to keep their staff healthy and inspired.

He said: "We’ve listened, and we’re now proud to offer our customers a total wellbeing solution with perks, an employee assistance programme and more, all bundled into one simple app."

Alan Chan, director at IFS Wealth & Pensions, predicted employee care products to become more widespread as providers increasingly addressed staff engagement needs.

He said: "Employers are becoming more aware that staff wellbeing isn’t just about offering sick pay.

"By offering a more thorough service that keeps staff healthy and motivated, employees will feel more valued, which has positive benefits for both the company and its staff."
