Government sets date for Spring Statement

The government will publish its Spring Statement on Wednesday March 13, 2019.

The statement will see the government's response to economic forecast from the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR), which are expected to show a slowdown in growth.

The date leaves the government with two and a half weeks to go before Britain leaves the EU on March, 29.

However, the Chancellor is widely expected to deliver an emergency Budget in the event of a no-deal Brexit to introduce measures to support the British economy.

The Prime Minister is still in talks with MPs to push a deal through Parliament after her previous one was rejected by a landslide earlier this month, with a vote scheduled for tonight.

Philip Hammond had abolished the annual spring Budget after taking office in 2016, meaning there is now only one major fiscal event a year, the Autumn Budget.
