Pension adviser ramps up consumer campaign

Retirement income adviser My Pension Expert (MPE) has launched a website focusing on alternative retirement options in order to get more consumers to question their existing deals.

The firm, which provides both regulated advice and guidance services, helping clients compare prices on the open market, has revamped its website with more comprehensive information about options such as income drawdown and lump sum withdrawals, alongside its existing annuity comparator service.

The initiative is part of the company’s ongoing campaign to get consumers the “best deal” for their retirement income.

Catherine Thomas, client director at MPE, said: “Knowledgeable consumers are savvy consumers. Our website is the first step in prompting consumers to question their current retirement plan and seek advice to discover alternative options and achieve a comfortable retirement.

“The fight is on-going but MPE won’t stop until all consumers are able to enjoy the retirement they deserve.”

The new website will be updated weekly with industry news and policy changes, with a view to helping users understand how this can impact their retirement income.

MPE employs teams of IFAs who offer advice and guidance to clients.

Dave Penny, managing director at Invest Southwest, has not heard of the firm but backs any initiative that helps clients get the best deal.

He said: “It is vital to encourage consumers to question their existing deals in all aspects of personal finance and anything which raises awareness can only be good.

“Too many consumers simply transact with their current provider significantly disadvantaging themselves.”

He added he was not worried of any kind of ‘client grab’: “There are too many clients and not enough advisers so that really is not a concern.

“Raising awareness and encouraging clients to shop around is for the greater good.”
