FASA 2017 Methodology: How we tallied the scores

Every year, thousands of advisers vote for their favourite financial services providers, judging them on a series of criteria, based on various aspects of the service they provide.

Over the summer, data is collected by CoreData Research – both online and in print –whereby advisers give a list of providers across the industry marks out of 10. The providers are judged on the following criteria: new business processing, product support, personal contact, central processing, flexibility of charging options and electronic business.

The data is collected and averages are compiled. This produces a ranking of all the providers, including those that did not qualify, either because they did not get enough votes or their marks were not high enough.

The five-star winners are determined where there is a clear distinction between one group and another; company of the year is determined where there is a consistent pattern of excellence across all sectors, and the most improved is determined where there has been a dramatic increase in performance. Outstanding achievement is awarded to a company that has shown significant improvement across the years or consistent levels of five-star service.

The totals column reflects  companies total score since the Service Awards began; more data can be found on FTAdviser.
