Adviser in court accused of conning mother

A financial adviser has appeared in court where he denied conning his elderly mother out of almost £140,000.

Simon Haydock, 48, of Cardiff, appeared at Newport Crown Court on Tuesday where he pleaded not guilty to a charge of fraud by abuse of position.

The defendant, who was dressed in a blue suit, is accused of conning his mother Geraldine Haydock out of £137,338, which she claims she thought she was investing.

Haydock claims the money from his mother was a gift.

Haydock, of Matthysens Way, Trowbridge, was remanded on unconditional bail until his trial at Cardiff Crown Court on July 11.
