Health Shield chief executive passes away

The chief executive of Health Shield, Jonathan Burton, has died after being diagnosed with cancer.

The 50-year-old had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer late last year and died on Friday 6 April.

David Allen, chairman of Health Shield, said: "During his 25 years at the society, of which 17 and a half years were at the helm of Health Shield, Jonathan was an inspirational leader and his infectious smile and upbeat attitude always created a positive and cheerful atmosphere throughout the company.

"I’m sure everyone across the industry who knew Jonathan will join me in sending our heartfelt condolences to his family at this difficult time. He will be sorely missed by all."

Courtney Marsh, the friendly society's commercial director, was appointed as acting chief executive several months ago, to run the company in Mr Burton's absence.

He will continue in this role until further notice.

Health Shield was founded in 1877 and provides health cash plans and wellbeing benefits.
