Certified financial planner numbers increase

The number of certified financial planners (CFPs) worldwide rose in 2018, with an annual growth of 3.3 per cent

The UK itself now has close to 1,000 CFPs, according to the Financial Planning Standards Board (FPSB).

Across the 26 territories where the programme is offered, there are 181,360 of CFP professionals, a figure that has increased 5,787 since 2017.

Noel Maye, chief executive of the Financial Planning Standards Board, said the organisation’s goal is to “have 250,000 CFP professionals in 40 territories by
2025”.

He said: “With a global CFP professional growth rate of 3.3 per cent within FPSB’s 26-territory network, talks underway in several new territories and the rollout of FPSB pathway education and certification programs last year, FPSB is making solid progress in its efforts to increase the public’s access to competent and ethical financial planners who work in their clients’ interest.”

The United Stated, Japan and China are among the countries, which saw the most growth over the past year, increasing CFP numbers by more than 200 professionals.
