Former Aviva boss and insurance stalwart Toby Strauss is set to take up the helm at Brewin Dolphin's board as chairman.

Mr Strauss has previously headed up Aviva's UK life and pension businesses and led the insurance arm at Lloyds Banking Group, including its Scottish Widows operations.

He will join Brewin Dolphin as its chairman and a non-executive director following the company's annual general meeting in February next year.

Mr Strauss is currently a non-executive director at Legal & General alongside his role of chairman at insurance company Pacific Life Re.

He said: "I am very much looking forward to returning to the world of private clients, to joining my new colleagues at Brewin Dolphin, and to supporting them in achieving long-term success for the company and in creating shareholder value."

The change will see Simon Miller step down as chairman after eight years at the helm of the Brewin Dolphin board.

Mr Miller joined the board in 2005 before becoming deputy chairman in 2012 and chairman in 2013.

Mr Miller said his 15 years spent at Brewin Dolphin had been a "privilege".

He added: "Toby will be joining an excellent team, and I wish him, the board and the business all continued success."
