Simplybiz appoints chief financial officer

Support services provider Simplybiz has appointed chartered accountant David Thompson as chief financial officer, with effect from April.

Thompson has been CFO at Aim-listed Smart Metering Systems after being promoted from group and divisional finance director in 2017.

He has also held senior finance positions at Energetics Utility Group, Johnston Carmichael and PwC.

In addition, group finance director, Gareth Hague, is leaving Simplybiz “by mutual agreement” after five years and will step down from the board on March 31.

Ken Davy, non-executive chairman at Simplybiz, said Thompson will “be a great asset as we take the business forward”.

Davy added: “I would like to thank Gareth for his valued contribution to the group over the past five years, with particular recognition to his role in supporting the business since our IPO in 2018 and the acquisition of Defaqto in 2019. We extend him every good wishes for the future.”

Simplybiz has seen revenues slip last year amid “challenging” conditions but remained optimistic about the future of the company.

It reported revenues of £61m for 2020 — a 3 per cent drop from the £63m figure reported in the previous year.

But while marginal, the drop is a stark contrast to the 24 per cent boost in revenues the company enjoyed during 2019, when income jumped from £50.7m to £62.8m.
