Ex-Aberdeen duo Alex Barr and James Witter have launched an investment management business specialising in broadening investor access to global private markets.
Barr and Witter launched Bread Street Capital Partners, which will cover private equity, infrastructure, private debt and real assets markets.
The pair have appointed Abigail Sater as chief operating officer. Sater was formerly chief operating officer of The Big Exchange.
Barr, said: “We are delighted to launch Bread Street Capital Partners as the UK starts to return to the office.
“Private markets is the most exciting growth area in asset management yet most investors remain under allocated and miss the opportunity the asset class presents to enhance returns.
“We anticipate that Bread Street will become a key partner for institutional and professional clients who need client driven private markets expertise.”
Barr was most recently a senior adviser to Henderson's Alternative Strategies trust, and was a senior portfolio manager at Janus Henderson Investors for 18 months. Prior to that he spent nearly 14 years at Aberdeen Standard Investments, most recently as global head of private markets and real estate investment oversight.
Witter is a non-executive director of Oxford Capital, managing director of Childer Hill Capital, and spent six years also at Aberdeen Standard Investments, latterly as a director of Aberdeen Private Equity Global Fund of Funds.
The firm will launch private markets portfolios with responsible thematic, financing stage or manager exposures, and will initially focus on developing a series of stock-exchange listed private market funds.
Bread Street will also provide private markets solutions to asset managers including investment advisory, legacy portfolio rationalisation, operating framework design and risk oversight services.
Witter added: “We create bespoke portfolios and products across private markets, including private equity, infrastructure, private debt and real assets.
“We are experts in managing stock exchange listed funds, responsible investing and engagement and investment oversight.
“For clients with mature portfolios, we offer tried and tested expertise in providing clear, unconflicted end of fund life advice, options and execution.”
