Abrdn completes adviser exec team with new hires

Abrdn, formerly Standard Life Aberdeen, has made changes to the adviser executive team, including the appointment of Russell Bignall as sales director.

Bignall joins from Quilter where he has been head of sales since 2015 and will report to the chief executive of the group’s adviser platforms, Noel Butwell.

He will join the business later in the year.

Fiona Dudman has joined the firm in the role of solution maintenance & control director, also joining the adviser executive team and reporting to Butwell.

She joined the business in June from Barclays UK where she was head of conduct and operation controls in the business banking division.

Noel Butwell, chief executive of Abrdn’s adviser platforms, said: “I’m delighted to welcome Russell and Fiona to Abrdn. Both have a huge amount of experience and expertise in the industry that will support us in our aim to deliver the best outcomes for advisers and their clients across Wrap and Elevate.

“As a former colleague, I know Russell well and look forward to working with him again. His wide and varied knowledge of the adviser industry is exceptional and his experience of engaging with advisers and their businesses is second to none.

“Fiona will lead a team to really develop our control environment, bringing a new level of scrutiny to support ourselves and advisers in the ever-changing regulatory environment.”

Yesterday the firm announced a shake up of its investment management team as it prepares for the retirement of its chief investment officer.

Rod Paris will retire from the role at the end of this year after nearly 20 years at the firm.

In light of his retirement, the group will reorganise its structure, dividing its investment management team into public markets, real assets, solutions and central investments.

The heads of each team will report to chief executive Stephen Bird.
