River & Mercantile has appointed James Sym as head of equities.
Sym joined R&M in 2020 to establish the group's European equities franchise, and currently manages the ES River and Mercantile European fund.
He previously spent seven years at Schroders as a European equity fund manager, and prior to that was a UK and European analyst and co-fund manager at Cazenove Capital.
The promotion is effective immediately and Sym will continue to report to chief executive Alex Hoctor-Duncan.
Sym said: “As a society we are grappling with key questions around the cost of living, inflation and the sustainable transition.
“The world is self-evidently changing and our approach is well suited to this new environment.”
Hoctor-Duncan said: “We want what we do to make a difference and James’s enthusiasm and passion, alongside that of the whole Equities team, will be key drivers to this.”
In January it was confirmed that AssetCo would be taking over R&M, paying £98.8mn for the comapny.
