True Potential appoints Ben Thorpe as CFO

True Potential has appointed Ben Thorpe to its newly created chief financial officer position.

Thorpe, who joins from Brooks Macdonald where he was CFO, will take over the responsibilities of senior partner, Neil Johnson who is retiring after 16 years with True Potential.

True Potential chief executive, Daniel Harrison said he believes they have found the “very best person” for the role and thanked Johnson for his role in helping to grow True Potential during his time there.

Thorpe has worked in financial services for more than 20 years. He joined Brooks Macdonald in August 2018 from Brewin Dolphin where he was head of finance.

Before that, he spent 14 years working in the financial planning and analysis teams at Morgan Stanley, RBS and Barclays Capital.

Brooks Macdonald announced Thorpe’s departure from the firm in January along with the departure of chief operating officer, Lynsey Cross.

Commenting on the move, Thorpe said:  “I have known and admired True Potential for a long time. It’s a thriving business, a huge success story, and a firm where everything begins with what is best for the client.

"The firm is in a great position and I look forward to working with the team to deliver on its ambitious growth strategy.”
