Verso appoints CEO as it eyes further acquisitions
Alan Mathewson, the new group chief executive officer at Verso Wealth Management

Verso Wealth Management has appointed Alan Mathewson as group chief executive officer as the firm focuses on future acquisitions.

The company’s co-founders, Andrew Fay and Simon Redgrove, will remain at the firm and on the board, and will lead its distribution and acquisition strategy.

Mathewson previously spent time at Brown Shipley, during which time it acquired and integrated a business with £1mn in assets under management, and has also worked across a number of senior leadership positions over a 20-year tenure at Santander.

He said his experience at both firms will help him ensure Verso’s proposition “remains compelling” and it continues to attract new firms.

"I am passionate about modernising wealth management…I have led major strategic refreshes at both Brown Shipley and Santander which were transformative for the respective businesses,” he said.

Verso acquired five firms last year, including Pavis Financial Management Limited, Campbell Thomson Insurance Services Limited and Heritage Independent Financial Advisers Limited, which brought its assets under management to £1.8bn at the end of the year.

The digital wealth management group provides financial advice and investment management, and entered into a strategic partnership with Cairngorm Capital in 2021.

It is aiming to build a national digital wealth management group.

In a statement today (May 30), Fay said the “time is right” to expand the group’s executive team.

“Our firm is growing rapidly – in the last 18 months, we have established the Verso proposition and platform, partnered with five1 financial planning firms, achieving geographic coverage across the UK.”
